The mobile device is mightier than the sword

May 12, 2017 by Anthony Casalone

The old saying “The pen is mightier than the sword” may need an upgrade to “The mobile device is mightier than the sword”.

The best sales teams are constantly on the go setting appointments, making presentations, or gathering information.  If your team is doing these activities guess where they are not—in the office.  This is a good thing though; a customer once told me that he likes to see empty cubes in his sales department because it means they are out doing their job well.  But today they are expected to be accessible no matter when or where they are.

Sure they have a mobile phone, a laptop and possibly a tablet, but these tools are only as good as their ability to function outside the office.  Is their mobile phone integrated into their office phone so they never miss a call?  Can a conference call be scheduled, set up, and carried out exactly the same as their desk phone?  Are office voicemails being delivered to them on the go?  As an endpoint, how secure is the lap top connection to your network without risking data exposure over Starbuck’s public Wi-Fi?  They’ll need the same access to CRM and other key applications no matter when or where they are working from.

By providing these tools not only is your sales organization being serviced, but also your customers.  The Customer Experience continues to increase as a factor for how B2B customers make decisions.  Your team’s ability to communicate and collaborate with their customers and colleagues could be the difference between keeping and losing that customer.

STL Communications provides solutions making everywhere a part of your office.  We can seamlessly integrate your office voice needs to your mobile devices and your emails and give everyone the flexibility to operate efficiently using the methods they work best with.

The pen will never lose relevance as an important tool, but it should get used to having others with it to get the job done.
