We were pleased to learn that the winning contestant, educator Ruth Ann Orr of Cape Girardeau, MO, was able to share her prize with some pretty special people. You can read her submission here: https://stlcom.com/blog/2014/04/thats-a-winner/
Ruth Ann was very gracious when we called to inform her of her winning, but when she followed up with e-mail to thank us, we read “the rest of the story.” Due to a variety of stressful circumstances, the Orrs have not been able to spend much time together as a family recently. She wrote “A trip to Busch was such a special family experience for us as time is precious…and to be able to access the Redbird Club! Wow!”
Orr went on to explain that she shared the tickets with her husband (Kevin, a police officer), daughter (Liz, star of the winning story) and son-in-law (Cory, “from Connecticut and a recent convert to Cardinal Nation”). Cory, a veteran, also works with emergency responders, and was headed to Overland Park, KS, in the aftermath of the shootings at the Jewish Community Center. Cory has also assisted at Sandy Hook and in Moore, OK (post-tornado). Ruth Ann wrote “I am so happy I could give him this day…he loved it and leaves in great spirits to serve as he believes God has called him to serve. ANYWAY…what a fantastic day! You can’t begin to know what this time together meant to all of us. And…go Cards! That WAS a winner!”
Thanks to all of you who participated in our contest!
